General Motors Corp. unveiled the new 2010 Cadillac SRX crossover vehicle. The new 2010 Cadillac SRX is set to go on display at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit later this month, replacing the SRX model first launched in 2004. The 2010 SRX will be available in front and all-wheel-drive variants. The on-demand AWD version features an electronic limited-slip differential.

Two engines will be offered in the 2010 SRX, both of which are smaller than the current base SRX engine. The 3.0-liter V-6 has a 260 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque and bests the output of the previous standard mill. A 2.8-liter turbocharged V-6 that produces 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and nearly matches the 320 hp and 315 lb-ft afforded by the 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 in current SRXs.

Inside are seats for up to five, which had space for seven. The cabin’s appointments are reminiscent of the handsomely designed CTS’s, including the same pop-up navigation screen and finely stitched leather. A power liftgate is again an option, as is a rear entertainment system. Bluetooth and OnStar are standard, as well.

Preview: 2010 Cadillac SRX Revealed Before Detroit Auto Show

After releasing a teaser video of the new Cadillac SRX playing in the snow, General Motors has officially taken the wraps off of the new Caddy crossover which will officially debut at the Detroit Auto Show in a few weeks. While the outgoing SRX was based on the CTS's platform, the 2010 SRX uses GM's Theta groundwork (also found on the new Chevrolet Equinox) to create an a more attractive MPV for the Cadillac brand. This means that while the outgoing SRX was available in rear-wheel drive (with optional all-wheel drive), the new vehicle will be offered in front-drive for the base model with AWD available. Additionally, the Cadillac designers have carried over with their "Art and Science" theme, making the new SRX doubly more attractive than the outgoing model.
The SRX can be had with a choice of two powerplants: a direct-injection 3.0-liter V-6 which produces 260 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, or a turbocharged 2.8-liter V-6 which pumps out producing 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Both are mated to a standard six-speed automatic transmission and, as mentioned before, can be had with front- or all-wheel-drive configurations.
All of this, combined with a rather attractive interior, should make the SRX a rather worthy competitor for vehicles like the Acura RDX and Infiniti EX35. We'll have live shots for you when the SRX officially debuts on the Cobo Hall floor. 2010 CADILLAC SRX: A DISTINCTIVE ALTERNATIVE FOR TODAY'S LUXURY CROSSOVER CONSUMER

DETROIT – Cadillac unveiled the next-generation 2010 SRX Crossover today, featuring a completely new design and more-efficient, high-technology engine choices. The new SRX is a mid-size luxury crossover coming to the North American International Auto Show next week.
"The all-new SRX is a fresh and compelling crossover aimed squarely at the priorities of luxury buyers," said Mark McNabb, North America vice president, Cadillac/Premium Channel. "With new technologies for increased efficiency and safety, the redesigned 2010 SRX Crossover focuses on both the emotional and pragmatic sides of the luxury consumer."
The 2010 SRX is designed for efficient performance, including the choice of two high-tech six-cylinder engines that are new to Cadillac – the smallest-displacement engines it offers in North America. A new, 3.0L direct injected V-6 engine is standard and a new, 2.8L turbocharged V-6 is optional. Both engines employ technology that helps produce strong performance that is typical of larger-displacement engines. Direct injection enables a 25-percent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions. Fuel economy in the mid-20s on the highway is expected, but testing isn't complete.
Performance and safety are enhanced by an available all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that is designed to optimize vehicle handling and stability in all driving conditions. The AWD system includes an advanced electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) that distributes torque as needed from side to side along the rear axle, as well as from the front to rear axle. The pre-emptive, active-on-demand system provides an extra measure of capability in wet or icy conditions.
The 2010 SRX rides on a wide track that was designed to deliver a nimble, responsive driving experience. It seats five, with generous occupant and cargo room, and can tow up to 3,500 pounds (1,587 kg).
Distinctive design and craftsmanship
"Cadillac is known for bold design. The 2010 SRX Crossover builds on that reputation," said Clay Dean, Cadillac global design director. "As with the 2008 CTS, we advanced our Art and Science design to create a crossover for style-conscious customers. The exterior features a dramatic diving gesture on the body side to impart the feeling of movement, even at rest."
A multi-piece shield grille and Cadillac's iconic vertical headlamps – with light pipe technology and available adaptive forward lighting – are the face of the SRX. They blend into a tightly wrapped, sweeping body that tapers downward at the rear, giving the vehicle a sporty profile, Dean said.
The SRX features a wide stance, minimal overhang and wheels pushed to corners. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard and 20-inch wheels are offered. A bold accent line dives across the body side and culminates at a chrome front fender vent that incorporates a side marker lamp. An integrated spoiler on the rearward edge of the roof extends the sleek lines and improves aerodynamics.
"Inside the new SRX, technical precision blends with old-world craftsmanship," Dean said. "Hand-cut-and-sewn coverings on the instrument panel and ambient lighting details convey a finely tailored cabin."
An integrated center stack houses controls for climate and audio systems, while the navigation system rises from the center of the instrument panel. A signature example of the SRX's attention to detail is the Cadillac script logos in the front door sill plates that illuminate when the doors are opened.
Advanced technology and entertainment systems
The 2010 SRX features numerous advanced electronic systems. Highlights include a "pop-up" navigation screen with three-dimensional imaging; adaptive forward lighting that swivels the headlamps in synch with vehicle steering; power liftgate with adjustable height setting; integrated hard disc drive for audio storage and a dual-screen system for rear entertainment.
Bluetooth compatibility is standard, as is OnStar's turn-by-turn navigation service for buyers who do not select the car's navigation system option.
Efficient performance
The SRX is powered by a new, fuel-efficient direct injected 3.0L V-6 that delivers an estimated 260 horsepower (193 kW) and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Direct injection results in more power, better fuel economy and lower emissions, all will a smaller-displacement package. As a result, the new V-6 engine is expected to raise the SRX's standard power rating by 5 horsepower, while achieving an estimated 1 0-15-percent fuel economy improvement.
The 3.0L direct injection V-6 is a smaller-displacement version of the 3.6L, direct injection engine featured in the CTS sport sedan and named one of the world's 10 Best Engines for 2009 by Ward's Automotive. Along with direct injection technology, the 3.0L engine employs variable valve timing to optimize power and fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
The Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed automatic transmission helps save fuel by lowering the engine's rpm at constant highway speeds, while manual shift control enables greater driver interaction when desired. The new SRX includes a driver-selectable "eco mode" that alters transmission shift points to maximize fuel economy.
"The 2010 SRX will deliver excellent, balanced driving dynamics in all types of weather," said Bob Reuter, global vehicle chief engineer. "The all-wheel-drive system with electronic limited slip effectively transfers torque not only from front to rear, but also along the rear axle. This system sets a new benchmark for all all-wheel-drive systems, giving the driver control and confidence on any road surface."
Traction control is taken a step further on AWD models with the rear eLSD. In icy or wet conditions, the system can transfer up to 100 percent of torque to the wheel that has more grip. The eLSD also gives the driver enhanced control when cornering hard or completing a high-speed maneuver, such as a lane change, by momentarily applying more or less torque to either of the wheels to help the rear of the vehicle more closely follow the direction of the front wheels.
The suspension includes a real-time damping system in conjunction with AWD that adjusts shock damping rates in response to road conditions for a smooth ride quality.
Enhanced safety
SRX's safety features are designed to protect occupants before, during and after a crash. A strong body structure and chassis that absorbs crash energy is complemented by the use of martensitic steel in the fully enclosed rocker sections. Martensitic steel is one of the strongest available and its use in the rockers helps protect against intrusion during a side-impact crash, while also maintaining the structure during front and rear crashes.
Additional safety features include standard head curtain side air bags, standard front seat-mounted pelvic/thorax side air bags, front safety belts with dual pretensioners and load limiters, rollover mitigation sensors, a pedal release system, trailer stability assist and OnStar.
The SRX was also designed to meet European pedestrian protection standards; and the front bumper is positioned for greater compatibility with car bumpers.
Production begins in the second quarter of 2009, with dealer availability shortly thereafter.

2010 Cadillac SRX Preview

The result of direct injection is a 3.0-litre V6 that improves on the outgoing SRX V6 by about 5-horsepower while delivering 10- to 15-percent better fuel economy, the latter partly due to the engine's 600 cc reduction in displacement over the outgoing model's 3.6-litre mill. The new 3.0-litre also gets variable valve timing to further maximize output and efficiency, although torque is down by about 33 lb-ft according to Cadillac's estimates.

The next part of the fuel efficiency equation includes two six-speed automatic transmissions, GM's own Hydra-Matic 6T70 for the 3.0-litre and an AF40 Aisin Warner unit for the 2.8 turbo. Taller overdrive gears save on fuel while shorter intervals optimize each engine's sweet spot to maximize performance. Each transmission gets a manual-mode for better driver interaction when feeling frisky, and when trying to get the most out of a tank of gas they come with a driver-selectable “eco mode” that causes the transmission to shift earlier and therefore keep revs to a minimum. Unfortunately GM doesn't have any estimated fuel economy numbers to tease us with, but we can surmise that a 10- to 15-percent reduction from the current 3.6-litre equipped all-wheel drive SRX' 14.8 L/100 km city and 9.2 highway rating would equal something in the neighbourhood of 12.6 to 13.3 L/100 km in the city and 7.8 to 8.3 L/100 km on the highway, which would be brilliant numbers to pull from a midsize luxury SUV to say the least. And that's with all-wheel drive! Front-wheel drive models (yes the current rear-wheel drive configuration is gone) will fare even better. As for the 2.8-litre turbo's fuel economy, it's got to be better than the current V8's 16.0 L/100 km city and 10.0 L/100 km highway rating. Add into the mix that the new SRX is significantly shorter by 117 mm (4.6 inches) at 4,833 mm (190.2 inches) with a 150-mm (5.9-inch) reduction in wheelbase length, plus lower overall by 54 mm (2.1 inches), and although Cadillac neglected to include its curb weight it'll no doubt be lower than the current model's, and therefore need less torque to get off the line and less power to keep it accelerating. Interestingly, the new CUV is wider by 66 mm (2.6 inches) and features a 1,626-mm (64.0-inch) front and 1,620-mm (63.7-inch) track that should translate into superb cornering.

2010 Cadillac SRX

The SRX, Cadillac's midsize crossover, was supposed to be a big deal for the luxury division when it launched in 2003 as a 2004 model, but even after its 2007 model year update it's been a significantly slower seller than the CTS sedan it's based on, a reality that flies in the face of the last five years of luxury crossover sales. Just why is difficult to say, but it may have something to do with styling that looks much more car-like than top-selling luxury CUVs from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The new 2010 SRX abandons the tall-wagon profile for a more traditional SUV-like stance, and frankly, to my eyes at least, it looks a lot better. We saw and reported on this crossover last year as the Provoq concept, and fortunately it hasn't changed much from prototype to reality.
“The all-new SRX is a fresh and compelling crossover aimed squarely at the priorities of luxury buyers,” said Mark McNabb, North America vice president, Cadillac/Premium Channel. “With new technologies for increased efficiency and safety, the redesigned 2010 SRX Crossover focuses on both the emotional and pragmatic sides of the luxury consumer.”
Two of the new SRX' technologies include its choice of engines, and oddly the larger displacement V6 is the standard powerplant. It measures 3.0 litres, compared to the current model's 3.6, and is now direct injected for optimal performance and fuel efficiency, not to mention a 25-percent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions. Output should be about 260-horsepower at 6,950 rpm and 221 lb-ft of torque at 5,600, which makes it an extremely strong entry-level engine. Then again, the luxury crossover's all-new turbocharged 2.8-litre V6 boasts 300-horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque at a very tractable 1,850 rpm, which is very close to the 320-horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque offered by today's 4.6-litre V8… soon to be history. The best part of this combination isn't just the performance, however, but rather the massive fuel efficiency gains with either engine.

2010 Cadillac SRX

The 2010 Cadillac SRX we first saw in the accidental debut by Rick Wagoner has again upgraded its pixel count with full resolution images of the next generation crossover. The next SRX moves away from the wagon-like version we now have and onto the Theta platform while showing off some Cadillac Provoq concept styling ques. Clearly evident is Caddy's modern 'Art and Science' design theme, but also note the tail lights which, at the right angle, give a hint of some tail fin action. Interesting. Full press release with verbose designer-speak after the jump.

SNEAK PREVIEW: 2010 CADILLAC SRX CROSSOVER
All-New, Next-Generation SRX Coming in 2009
2010 Cadillac SRXPEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Today Cadillac provided a special sneak preview of the next-generation SRX Crossover, a 2010 model that will launch worldwide in mid-2009.The all-new SRX is intended to bring a more dynamic alternative to the heart of the luxury crossover segment, featuring a fresh iteration of Cadillac's signature design language.
"The next-generation SRX is the result of the continued exploration and refining of Cadillac design language, with the goal of creating dramatic presence in the luxury crossover space," says Clay Dean, Cadillac design director.
The all-new SRX debuts at major global auto shows later this year, at which time complete details will be released. The 2010 model will replace the current SRX Crossover, which launched in 2004 as a key component of Cadillac's ongoing product renaissance and global expansion. This next-generation crossover is similar in styling and proportion to Cadillac's Provoq Concept that appeared in many auto shows during 2008.
The all-new production model is being developed to achieve excellent driving dynamics and wet-weather traction, with an elegantly modern cabin designed to accommodate five passengers and ample cargo.
"The next-generation SRX, along with the new CTS Sport Wagon, showcases Cadillac taking its dramatic design into new directions, particularly cars and crossovers that are the right size at the right time for today's luxury consumers," said Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager.
